“Central Coast Flyer” Vintage Railcar Experience
“Overland Trail” is known for its friendly atmosphere. The South Coast Railroad Museum is pleased to offer one-day roundtrip excursions from the Santa Barbara South Coast aboard the “Central Coast Flyer”, featuring the historic railroad cars,"Overland Trail," Vista Dome Car "Silver Splendor," and other vintage rail. Enjoy spectacular views from the comfort of two of the West Coast's premiere private rail cars as your train travels along the Pacific shoreline. Points of interest along the route include the Gaviota Coast, Channel Islands, Hollister Ranch, Point Conception, Vandenberg AFB, the Edna Valley wine country, state and county beach parks, and much more.
Hosts Bill & Debbie Hatrick All trips begin in Santa Barbara or Goleta (passenger's choice) traveling to San Luis Obispo, with same-day return. Each Overland Trail trip is limited to a maximum of 36 passengers. Silver Splendor holds 48 passengers. For current travel dates and reservations, visit the museum's online store. Typical travel times: Depart Santa Barbara (SB) at 10:22 a.m. (Goleta 10:34). Arrive San Luis Obispo (SLO) at 1 p.m. Depart SLO at 1:55 p.m. Arrive SB at 4:32 p.m. (Goleta 4:17).

Early Photograph of Overland Trail The Overland Trail is a 39-seat club lounge, built by the Pullman company for the Southern Pacific Railroad and delivered in 1949. Originally designated SP 2981, the car served on the San Francisco Overland, a train jointly operated by the Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and Chicago & North Western railroads between San Francisco and Chicago.
