Shana Aires
Shana got involved in a wide range of museum activities. She helped with fundraising and preparations of documents and images for the museum’s electronic kiosk. She worked as a conductor on the miniature train as well as a shop clerk. After she finished her internship, she continued to volunteer at the museum to satisfy the requirements for the UCSB Honors Program.

Thaswan “Bee” Tangsurat
Bee worked with the museum’s library, finding and applying Library of Congress cataloging numbers to the books in the museum's collections. |
Jameson Ray
Jameson (left in photo) helped to create these web-site pages on the internship program, including interviews with former interns about their museum experiences. He also helped on the miniature-train ride and entered volunteer-hours data in the museum computer.
Ross Colburn
Ross (center in photo) conducted research on the museum's Southern Pacific bay-window caboose (No. 4023) and inventoried the South Coast Railroad Museum Collection held in the Dept. of Special Collections, UCSB Library, He also helped with museum event publicity by distributing posters. After completing his internship, Ross continued as an engineer on the miniature- train ride until his graduation.

Roxanne “Rocky” Kennedy
Roxanne served as conductor on the miniature train and assisted with the preparations for and staffing of special events. Much of her time was devoted to interacting with the museum's visiting families with young children.

Ariane Perez
One of the museum's earliest interns, Ariane focused on the museum's collection records, especially those relating to the library. She was instrumental in early efforts to obtain Library of Congress cataloging information for books in the museum library

Alexis Hickman
Alexis worked with the museum library, recording a new accession, researching Library of Congress catalog numbers, as well as record- keeping and shelving of publications.

Svetlana Soloncheva
Svetlana's main project involved research for an orientation exhibit for arriving visitors. She also investigated train-theme playground equipment, shared the model railroad with visitors, helped complete an inventory of the museum's store merchandise, and served as a conductor on the miniature train. |
Samantha Escobar
Samantha organized a community outreach day at the museum, focusing mainly on the local Latino community. She obtained sponsorships from four local businesses and was able to thus provide free train rides, pizza and drinks to the museum's visitors during that day. The event was co-sponsored by her sorority sisters from UCSB's Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, who also were also on hand during the event communicating with visitors in both Spanish and English. Samantha also worked as a freight office agent and a conductor on the miniature train.

Jeanne Halvorson
Jeanne conducted an 11-participant visitor study consisting of guided museum tours, with pre- and post-tour interviews. Her results provided valuable insights to the public's perceptions of the museum, as well as some ideas for the future. She also served as a freight-office agent and conductor on the miniature train.

Eden Epling
Eden actively communicated with the museum's visitors while helping in the store and office. She was successful in securing restaurant donations for the museum's annual silent auction and was the first intern trained to be an engineer on the Goleta Short Line miniature train. |

Monica Burrowes
Monica worked on an interpretive project, creating an interactive children’s self-guided tour of Goleta Depot. She also served as a conductor on the Goleta Short Line miniature train.

Avanti Bakane
Avanti actively participated in museum fundraising efforts, securing a number of donations from local businesses for the annual "Depot Day" silent auction, an important source of museum funding. She also helped with an outreach program to encourage Spanish- speaking families in the area to take advantage of the museum’s educational and recreational facilities. |
